South Carolina has a long coastline but, since the end of 2024, no cruise ship based in Charleston: the city stopped homeporting when it began redeveloping Union Pier. The nearest ports are now Jacksonville, about four hours from Charleston and five from Columbia, and Port Canaveral a little further. Norfolk suits the north of the state.
For flights there are airports at Charleston, Greenville-Spartanburg, Columbia and Myrtle Beach, with Charlotte just over the line. Dove Travel and Cruises International, a Nashville, Tennessee agency, plans for South Carolina travelers by phone and email and works out whether driving or flying to the ship makes more sense.
