All-inclusive vacations from Nashville: what’s included, what isn’t, and when to book

September 1, 2026BlogComments Off on All-inclusive vacations from Nashville: what’s included, what isn’t, and when to book

“All-inclusive” is the most reassuring phrase in travel and one of the least precise. At one resort it covers everything down to the minibar and the airport ride. At another, the good restaurants, the top-shelf drinks and the kayaks all cost extra. If you are flying out of Nashville for a week in the sun, here is what the label really buys, what it leaves out, and how to book it well.

What all-inclusive normally covers

  • Your room, with taxes and resort fees folded into the price.
  • All meals and snacks, usually a buffet plus several sit-down restaurants.
  • Drinks, alcoholic and not, at the bars, the pool and in most cases your room.
  • Non-motorized water sports: kayaks, paddleboards, snorkel gear, small sailboats.
  • Daytime activities and evening shows, and at family resorts the kids’ club.
  • Tips, at most resorts, though a few dollars for exceptional service is always welcome.

What usually costs extra

  • Spa treatments and salon services.
  • Premium dining: a chef’s table, lobster night or wine pairing at some properties.
  • Excursions off the resort: ruins, catamaran trips, zip lines, swimming with dolphins.
  • Motorized water sports, scuba diving beyond an introductory session, and golf at many resorts.
  • Airport transfers, unless you book a package that includes them.

The difference between resorts is mostly in this second list. Two properties at the same nightly rate can leave you with very different bills at checkout, which is why the room category and the fine print matter more than the photos.

Getting there from Nashville

Cancun is the easy one. It has nonstop service from BNA for much of the year, so you can leave Nashville after breakfast and be on the beach in the Riviera Maya by mid-afternoon. For Punta Cana, Jamaica, the Bahamas, Los Cabos and the smaller islands, expect one connection through a hub such as Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas or Miami. Seasonal nonstops come and go, so it is worth checking the current schedule before you fix your dates.

Two practical points. First, a package that bundles the flight, the resort and the transfers is usually cheaper than buying the pieces separately, and it gives you one company to call if a flight changes. Second, a short connection in winter is a risk: we would rather give you ninety minutes in Charlotte than forty in a snowstorm.

When to book, and when to go

  • Spring break and the holidays: book six to nine months ahead. Family rooms and the good flight times go first.
  • Best value: late April to early June, and November to mid-December. The weather is good and the resorts are quiet.
  • Hurricane season runs June through November, peaking in late summer. Prices are low for a reason. If you travel then, buy insurance and know the resort’s weather policy. Our guide to what travel insurance covers explains the options.

Adults-only or family resort?

This is the choice people most often get wrong. A honeymooning couple at a resort with a water park will not have the trip they pictured, and a family at an adults-preferred property will feel unwelcome. Brands such as Sandals are couples-only; their sister brand Beaches is built for families. We compare the two in Sandals vs. Beaches, and as a Certified Sandals Specialist we can tell you which resort and room category suits you.

Where a travel agent earns their keep

The resort pays our commission, so the price is the same as booking direct. What you get for it is someone who knows which properties have just been renovated, which “ocean view” rooms face the car park, and which room category unlocks the restaurants you actually want. Frequently asked questions

Do I need a passport for an all-inclusive resort?

Yes. Mexico, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas all require a valid passport when you arrive by air. Check that it does not expire within six months of your return.

Is an all-inclusive cheaper than a cruise?

For a week, they are often close. A resort gives you one place and more space; a cruise gives you several ports. Our comparison of a resort versus a cruise covers the trade-offs.

Should I tip at an all-inclusive?

Tips are included at most resorts and some discourage extra tipping. Where it is allowed, a few dollars for a bartender or housekeeper who looks after you is appreciated but not expected.
